Gossiping about relatives’ relationship?

Hey guys, what do you think about relatives who gossip about your relationships? Do you think that it is a total disrespect toward you and your partner’s privacy and a major hindrance to making any progress? Or is it just an unavoidable part of a relationship?

While I admit that I am not guiltless when it comes to this (look what I am doing right now), I am asking this because I would consider myself to be very moderate if you compare my gossip to that of my relatives.

Basically, I had this cousin who had been dating this girl since December 2005. When I first found out, I was like, “whatever.” However, I got this aunt from Toronto (let’s call her Auntie L) who, after meeting the girl, hated her for some reason. I don’t know if it is because her husband cheated on her and she is bitter or something, but she started saying a lot of bad things about the girl behind the couple’s back. Her attitude toward the girl would spread to other family members in Toronto.

Fast forward to Summer 2008/ my second eldest cousin’s wedding (Yes, the one I didn’t want to go). My cousin’s girlfriend was invited (more like my cousin’s mom/ my aunt invited her to come along). Thanks to Auntie L, every aunt in Toronto started saying bad things about my cousin’s girlfriend behind the couple’s back. Once again, I don’t know why, probably because 2 out 3 of my aunts in Toronto are divorced and the last one is just a *itch. I don’t think the couple realized this and I am glad they don’t know. They were together for so long that I am starting to worry that they may get married and I have to waste yet another summer semester.

Fast forward to October, the unthinkable happen: They broke up. I found out about this on Facebook and I was talking about this with my cousin Rachel. Here is what she has to say…

I just don't understand what is wrong with my relatives. They hated the girl. Personally, I found the girl is ok, not my type, but she is ok. She goes to church, still goes to school (college), and is not a bad girl pre-se (doesn’t smoke, drink, and do drugs, that sort of thing). Why are they so against her? After all this, I have decided that if I am in a relationship, I will do everything I can to keep my relatives in the dark. I am talking about total blackout, meaning no Facebook status update, no uploading pictures of us together, no adding her on phonebook, no pictures on the wall and wallet...

What do you guys think? Are my relatives just assholes that have too much time on their hand? Or are they just bitter that they were divorced? Have any of you guys dealt with similar situations?

A psychologist at University of Calgary developed this equation for procrastination...basically he says that people tend to postpone things with delayed rewards in favour of activities that offer immediate rewards.

The equation is U=EV/ID.

The 'U' stands for utility, or the desire to complete a given task. It is equal to the product of E, the expectation of success, and V the value of completion, divided by the product of I, the immediacy of the task, and D, the personal sensitivity to delay.

Article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechnology/science/sciencenews/3660232/Academics-invent-a-mathematical-equation-for-why-people-procrastinate.html#

Well, it's Monday, and I didn't get my daily dose of the crossword in the 24.
Whenever I'm on the bus going to school (or anywhere else), I MUST have a 24 so I can do the crossword.

Usually I have my headphones on and my nose stuck in the paper, without noticing anybody walk by or say hi to me.

There was one time when a friend walked by and tried to get my attention.
When I didn't look up, they actually came over and tapped me on the shoulder. "Yvonne!"
I look up. "Oh...! Hi." *looks down again at crossword*
Friend: "Doing the crossword I see!"
I look up again, thinking *Damnit, I just want to finish this. Stop talking to me!* "Yep".
Friend: continues one-sided conversation

Now that it's finals, I'm in withdrawal.
I guess I COULD print it out off the 24 website, but who does that?

I know, it's weird. But some people are freaky about sudoku's.
Well, for me, I like a good word puzzle, haha.
I know shmooey can understand.

Do you have weird habits on the bus?

The Physics of Santa

Is there a Santa?
The answer is simple: let's have a look at the facts:

1) No kind of reindeer flies. There are, of course, around 300.000 life forms which have not been classified yet, mostly bugs and bacteria, which make us believe that there might be a remote possibility there is, or was, a species of flying reindeers.

2) There are around two billion kids -below the age of 18- on Earth. But because Santa does not visit Muslim, Jews, Budists etc, his work is cut down to the 15% of this number, around 378 million kids. With an average of 3,5 kids per house, we've got 91,8 million houses. We assume that in each and every one of those houses there is at least one kid who was nice the whole year.

3) Santa's day is 31 hours if we calculate the different timezones when he travels from east to west. That gives him around 822,6 visits per second. That means that Santa has around 1/1000 of a second to park the sleigh, go down the chimney, put the presents, eat his milk and cookies, etc etc. If we assume that those 91,8 million houses are equally spread apart, then distance from every stop till the next is 1,3 kilometers, which gives us a total of 120,8 million kilometers. That meens that Santa's sleigh should run at an average speed of 1040 kilometers per second, 3000 faster than the speed of sound. A reindeer can run up to 24 kilometers per hour.

4) Let us assume that every gift weights around 1 kilogram, then the sleight will weight around 378,000 tones, not including Santa who, as we all know, is fat. A reindeer cannot carry more than 175 kilos. Even one, or eight or nine flying reindeers, who hypothetically could carry ten times more, cannot carry this burden. It would take around 216.000 reindeers, making the total weight of everythin accounted for around 410.000 tones.

5) 410.000 tones with a speed of 1040 kilometers per second cause great air resistance and heat, similar to a spaceship entering the atmosphere. The first pair of reindeers absorbs energy of 16,6 trillion joules. That means, in a few words, that those first two poor bastards would burn immediately. The next pair would instanty be exposed to an incredible resistance, resulting in a very loud bang

6) Each and every reindeer would have been evaporated in less than 5 miliseconds. Santa, on the other hand, would have been exposed in an acceleration force of 17,500 times greater than the Earth's (G force) which would make him slam on the back of the sleigh with a pressure of 20,6 million Neutons.

After that we could safely say that even if Santa existed, he does not exist any more
