I bring it up because this has become a rather large story.

Myself, I found the many claims surrounding DU hard to believe, just considering the source. Not only do reports of the harms of DU seem to be coming uniformly from rabid anti-war activists, but their comments show that they are completely ignorant about the concepts of causation versus correlation, and the fact that DU is just not very radioactive. Certainly it's not radioactive enough to cause deformities.

On the other hand, DU is a very heavy metal that can powder on impact, settling to the ground. Combined with spent shells that are left on the ground, the next rainfall could wash trace amounts of DU into the water table. Here is a Harvard abstract detailing a possible causational link between heavy metal exposure (non-radioactive) and leukemia.

In the end, the "DU is a war crime!" crowd lost all credibility, to me, when they started blaming everything under the sun on it. There are a number of websites out there hosting absolutely horrendous pictures of deformed babies, and quite frankly, there is just no way most of those conditions were caused by the military's use of depleted uranium. I know that it depends on the type of job, but what about jobs where you spend the majority of your time in an office environment (of course, I am wondering about marketing/advertising types of jobs since thats what I want to get into).

I read an article today about student retention which really got me thinking about students and the many obstacles they face. The fact that 30 percent of undergraduates do not end up finishing their degree is surprising, considering we all have to meet certain standards to be here in the first place. I will admit that I've been to the edge and back in terms of my "report card," but along the way I picked up some very valuable lessons which have gotten me to where I am today. Although it may seem like a cliche, it was ultimately hard work and perseverance that helped me to succeed.

Obviously, knowing what you want is an important first step to building a successful career, but it often involves confusing and difficult decisions. Asking questions and discussing options is a great way to find a focus. With that said, it is great to see the forum being used for this purpose. The members here are helpful and full of experience which you can benefit from. I am new here and joined the forum to ask from some current SFU's students(YOU!) about the good and bad thing you would think about graduate studies in engineering at SFU? I just need some info from people with first hand experience. I already have a Master degree and I am thinking about doing a second master there.

Some more general information will be appreciated too...:tongue: Like how the weather is? sport facilities, costs etc...

Anyone else having this prob? There are tons of 2nd year crim students, surely someone's run into this too?? I don't know wtf to do now. I NEED to take that course to start taking my higher level courses for 3rd year, yet I plan to do coop in the summer and will not have time to be taking STAT...argh. Sorry but i have another question. I'm not sure if this is faculty specific, but when are u allowed to take 300 level courses? do you have to finish all your lower level requirements first? what about credits? do i have to have 60 credits before i take them?

most of my friends just go for economics degree because they told me they have no difference as business degree

they told me that business degree is useless, the skill i learned from the degree is total useless

Second two weeks:
Readings starting to pile up, but you still have that mindset you had at the end of the previous semester: "Don't let it pile up, stay ahead, and work hard"

Beggining of second month:
First two weeks:
The thought: "Maybe I should start those essays that were assigned in the third and fourth weeks, I don't want to leave it to the last minute like last semester!"
Further: Readings getting more substantive, starting to get bored and tired.
Second two weeks:
Presentations begin, you were also assigned these in the first month but decided to wait until the day before, but you just BS it and its done and over with. All this last minute work is leaving you a bit exhausted.

Beggining of the last month:
First two weeks:
After doing your presentations in the last few weeks the night before they were due you didn't have time to do your readings, you are now a few chapters behind but maintain the mindset "I'll get them done this weekend!"
Last two weeks:
You are now 2-4 chapters behind in all your classes, and those essays you meant to start last month are now due and you haven't even started. At this point you give up on the readings and decide to just read them when or if you decide to study for finals. All your time now is spent finishing your essays, well, spent doing other things not school related and doing the essays the day or two before they are due, or even the morning of.

Does anyone else have a take?
