"Thanks to the email-leakage from MediaDefender-Defenders we now have proof of the things we've been suspecting for a long time; the big record and movie labels are paying professional hackers, saboteurs and ddosers to destroy our trackers.

While browsing through the email we identified the companies that are also active in Sweden and we have tonight reported these incidents to the police. The charges are infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming, all of these on a commercial level."

I've suspected it for a very long time - and even more so now - that TPB is going to set precedents to a more rational way of dealing with media content in the Internet, or - at the very least - wreak havoc in the the way the big media companies are now trying to restrict and regulate people's rights to use (digital) media the way they want.

I don't endorse piracy, but I've been closely following the progress of TPB versus media giants for a couple of years now and I must say those guys are my idols in the way they push back at the greedy corporations.

I wouldnt have minded paying if they didn't all suck, telus wont even let you download commercial ringtones from other websites.

Does anyone here use Shaw cable for their internet?

For the past two days my internet has either been a) REALLY slow (will load some content but then it times out) or b) down so I can't access anything.

I'm trying to figure out whether there is a problem with my wireless router at home or with Shaw. I called Shaw this morning and they told me to just restart the modem so I did and it started working again...and then like about 15 minutes later it's back to a crawling speed. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my router, it has been working just fine and I haven't messed around with it. My computers are still getting a strong wi-fi signal...

[whine]
Last night I had to stay at a 24hr coffee shop till 4am because I had online assignments to send in and since i have another set of midterms this week, I NEED to check my email for important information. Apparently there were a few other students at the coffee shop in the same situation as I was, but it seemed as though Shaw wasn't acknowledging the major problems last night (they didn't mention any problems with their service on the phone), causing us poor students to lose valuable sleep!
[/whine]

ANNNND... submitting this thread had 6 time-outs... :(

I know some people think that you are smart if you have a 3.7, 3.8 GPA, etc. But does your GPA tell you everything about that person? Does a high GPA mean that you are a smart person?

I have heard from a few professors that grades do not always reflect how smart a student is. So, in context, the professor was trying to say that someone who has a 3.5 GPA is not necessarily smarter than someone with a 2.5 GPA.

Think about it. After high school, everyone started fresh. Once the first days of classes started, it didn't matter if you had a 3.5 GPA or 3.7 GPA in high school.

After college it is about the same. My communications professor is on the review board for interviews. She said that a lot of times the people with the highest GPA's didn't get the jobs.

Think about it. Would you hrie someone with a high GPA who doesn't dress professionally or doesn't have good communication skills? You most likely wouldn't.

In conclusion, my point is that you shouldn't stress so much about your GPA. I am not saying to not try to get a high GPA, but you shouldn't worry about it. I bet you 10 years down the road you won't even remember your GPA.

I've finally tried setting up a wired home network on my own, but I ran into some problems. I mainly setup the network to share internet usage and share files. I'm also hoping to play multiplayer LAN games. I was wondering if anybody here can help me out with the problems I'm having.

There are only two computers connected in the network, and both are running on Windows XP. After everything was hooked up, cable wise, internet sharing worked perfectly. It's the file sharing that I've been unable to do.

Previously, when I went to "My Network Places" --> "View Workgroup computers" --> I could only see my ICS host, named "MASTER." I somehow got the other computer to work and now I can see both MASTER and the other computer. The problem is, when I try to access the other computer, it doesn't work. After awhile, en error message pops up that says "SENS is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Does anyone know how I can resolve the problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ok, heres the situation. My bf loves Ontario. He thinks its the best place on Earth (even tho he has never lived there, but he has visited there many times). He says there are better job opportunities there, that he can afford to buy a house there (here, he can not, unless he goes to Abbotsford), and that he will get paid more there.

He hates Vancouver. Not only Vancouver, but all of BC. He thinks its a shithole. He says that he will NEVER raise a family here.

And what about me?? Well, I actually like Vancouver. True, I will not be able to afford a home here right now (Im not sure when I will be able to actually), and I dont know much about the job market. But I lived in Ontario for 9 years. And I didnt like it. I didnt like the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. True, I have not been back there for a while, but I know that I dont like it.

I like the mountains and the water here (as gay as that sounds). But my bf keeps saying to me that once Im done school, we will move to Ontario. And Im so sick of it cuz i dont know if i even WANT to go. I agree, it would be good to move to a new place, but its not like we could just move there for a year to see if we like it and then move back because i know he wont do that. He would go there to stay.

I dont know what to do. This upsets me so much because we have very differing opinions on this matter. I might be up for trying somewhere like Calgary, but ultimately i think that i would want to come back to Vancouver to live (i dont know this for a fact, but it feels that way right now). And he doesnt like Vancouver at all. He wouldnt move back if he left.

So i told him to go. To move there. Without me. He told me he would never move without me. But he keeps mentioning Ontario. "Ontario this and Ontario that. Its so much better in Ontario than here." And its driving me nuts! So i told him, "if you want to live there so bad, i dont want to hold you back. You should go."

What would u guys do? Would you move to be with the one you love even tho you know that you would be utterly miserable there? Remember, ive already lived there and i hated it. I know what its like. But he doesnt. So part of me just tells myself to move there with him because he needs to experience it too. I dont know what to do. :(

I got on and found a seat on the 145 at the bus loop today and the capacity was just getting to the point where most seats were full. But the area from the priority seats to the end was completely unoccupied for people to stand, and still, there was a small cluster of people in the front end of the bus. So the bus travelled down to the stop at security with a whole bunch of students waiting to get on. The bus driver only opened the front door and when a few students stepped on, the people at the front end were still standing still the entire time. After letting 4 or so on the bus, the bus driver said he had to close the door even though half the bus was literally unoccupied. So finally, one person who was trying to get on the bus mentioned that there was a lot of room if people moved back. Only then, did the stupid people at the front start moving. what a bunch of idiots

They basically gave me 10 dollars off NHL, in exchange for me taking another game. :p

Just a heads up. You could potentially get 2 50 dollar games for 40 bucks, if you manage to walk in when they have the good stuff on the shelf.
