What brought this to mind is the fact that when I tell people that I wanna get married, they immediatly ask how old I am. When I tell them they say but you barely know yourself.

My thinking is if take 30 years trying to find yourself by someone elses definition at what point to find out you were never lost. I would hate to tell someone oh no I love you but I can't marry you because I'm still finding myself.

I let the same people know that the way I was raised I was forced to be more mature at a younger age. Some of the things I experienced at 8 years old are unheard of for today's 8 year olds. I don't knock those who dont share the same experiences I rather just believe you are shaped by the way you were raised. I could be wrong.

So I ask you all, Is there a specific age when you know yourself? If so what age? Are there certain things you must encounter? If so What? Or is it just in when you yourself believe you know yourself?

What is it that makes it such a necessary and integral part of everyday society. As time goes on I see the internet becoming more and more integrated with our lives and I see many parallels of the computing world and the real world. Computers started as individual, isolated processing units and which then began to be "connected" to allow them to share and transfer information. The internet is an obvious evolution of this same fundamental technique, as it allows every single computer to be connected all the time (we went from dial up to "always on" broadband).

So where does Web 2.0 play into all this? My opinion is that web 2.0 simply added a social component to the internet, thats all. We now have the ability to comment, tag, and recommend and share things in ways we didn't before. I've read many articles regarding Web 2.0 especially when the term first began to be thrown around, and it's ironic that the very people that know the most about computers had trouble understanding the concept of Web 2.0 simply because computer techies are not the most social bunch. In essence, it's like the internet world is developing to catch up with the real world, and it has now acquired the trait of being social while sharing information.

So is that it? The internet is a big deal because it allows us to share information most efficiently? If that's true, could "context-aware model of information access" eventually come to define Web 3.0? I'm not surprised they settled, really. And while 660 million dollars is a lot, remember that there are more than 500 plaintiffs. Damn.

I do wonder what percentage of those were actually abused, though. Not to defend an institution that perpetuated child rape, but I would say the gold-diggers and memory-manufacturers are probably pretty numerous. Then again, their numbers are probably made up for by people who were abused, but refuse to come forward about it.

Yesterday, i only cracked my fingers once, yay me! But today, so far it has been twice :( Thats pretty good considering that i usually crack them between 10 - 15 times a day. In the winter its worse....sometimes i crack them between 20 - 30 times a day then. My fingers feel weird if i dont crack them, and sometimes they even hurt if i dont do it, but im trying.

I find myself automatically cracking them, like this morning, i just automatically did it. I think i do it when im bored or something. And right now, i want to crack them soooo bad....i am going to have to concentrate on this and make an effort NOT to crack them....sounds dumb to some of you prolly, but its really hard :(

Man, that's terrible. The first time I saw him was on P&T's Bullshit, and when I saw he was teaching a class, I had to take it. He wasn't the most engaging lecturer, but he was a SUPER nice guy. I was writing an article, once, and went to him for a quote. We just sat and gabbed for an hour. Very approachable, always eager to help out his students, or any passer by. I was always impressed by his comittment to science, as well. He was president of a few local skeptic's societies, and a senior member of Csi-Cop, an international skeptic's group.

He also had an interesting that side that you might not expect from his soft-spoken demeanor. I needed a way to describe who he was, for my quote attribution, and ended up finding out that he was a pacticed magician (in the vein of anti-magical-magicians like James Randi,) and was a staunch opponent of the evils done in the name of the War on Drugs, even back before it was cool to be against those things.

LONDON (Reuters) - Can't remember life before mobiles? Chances are you'll also struggle to recall your home phone number and family birthdays.

According to a survey released Friday, the boom in mobiles and portable devices that store reams of personal information has created a generation incapable of memorizing simple things.

A quarter of those polled said they couldn't remember their landline number, while two-thirds couldn't recall the birthdays of more than three friends or family members.

The tech-savvy young fared worse than older people. The under-30s could remember fewer birthdays and numbers than the over-50s, according to the survey.

Two-thirds said they relied on their phone or electronic organizer to remember key dates.

"People have more to remember these days and they are relying on technology more for their memory," said Ian Robertson, professor of psychology at Trinity College, Dublin.

Researchers polled 3,000 people over the last two weeks in the survey for Puzzler Brain Trainer magazine.
