I'm referring to courses with small classes of less than 20 students. I think it's reasonable to have a B or a C class average for a lower division course with over 100 students, but I was wondering if the same applies to courses with less students. For example, in a class of 15 students, does a B+ or an A- constitute an 'average' grade or do they constitute 'below average' grades? I hope I'm making sense.
I've experienced averages of B- to b+ in upper division courses. It probably varies with faculty (I'm in MBB), but I've never seen a A- average (maybe in graduate level courses).
