MATH 150 prerequisites?

edited February 2014 in General
I know this is a bit of a stupid question, but what happens if you register for MATH 150 and don't meet the prerequisite of obtaining a B+ in pre-calculus?

I took math 12 and calculus 12 in high school, but I've forgotten what grade I had for either of those courses (I remember I achieved at least a B but I don't know if it's a B or a B+) and I can't seem to find my report card anywhere.

It's been a couple years since I did calculus (I'm switching my major to computer science from IAT) but I'm confident I can remember the basics while taking MATH 150.

What would happen if I take the course next semester and not meet the prerequisites? Would I get kicked out? Do they really check your high school grades to see if you meet the requirement?

I really don't want to spend time studying and taking the Calculus readiness test or spend money to get a transcript.

I think some of your high school grades will appear on your sfu transcript as transfer credits, so you could check your unofficial  coop transcript online to see if math 12 is listed.

Otherwise I would talk to an adviser. I know if you are missing university prereqs you get removed from the course. I imagine the same would be true for high school prereqs. There might be some leeway though, in which case the adviser would be the one who could pull strings.

At the end of the day if they don't let you sign up taking the readiness test would be a lot easier than taking MATH 100.
  • Check your advising transcript it shows your secondary courses
  • If you don't meet the req you will get an email telling you to remove yourself before you will get removed automatically. You will also be paying the 50$ or 100$ penalty fees too.

However, you can do the calculus challenge, and if you get 20/30 you can register for Math 150
