kicked out what are my options
so i was put on probation last semester and after seeing my first class mark this semester looks i won't be above 2.0
it is painfully obvious that i am gonna get kicked out.
is there any way i can talk to the dean or will they just mail me a letter and tell me that i am kicked out.
what are my other options besides this.

Go to college for a semester or two and get good grades. The more credits you take at college, the lower the GPA requirement to get back in
I don't know of many other options but if you had a tragic experience (ie. death of a family member) during the semester, which may have affected your studies, then they might consider it. It's a longshot though
I went to Douglas for 2 semesters, got the GPA I needed and transferred back. It was all very painless, and the classes I took tranferred directly into SFU class credits, so I didn't even lose too much time. Of course, that became moot when I switched my major. :p
Point is: go to college, button down, get back in, move on. This is an 8 month setback max, and perhaps not a setback at all if you manage to get transferrable courses at Douglas. In the end, I was happy it happened. It was a wake up call for me to put more effort into school, and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I like the college atmosphere.
Moral: Don't freak out. :)
Here are the credit-GPA requirements you'll need to get in college to be elligable for readmission to SFU:
12-17 units with a minimum 3.50 GPA
18-23 units with a minimum 3.00 GPA
24-29 units with a minimum 2.75 GPA
30 or more units with the acceptance GPA
Second of all, your an idiot. If you had joined the forum earlier we coulda helped you pass your classes.
Thirdly, once you get kicked out it's pretty hard to get back in. PM me if you are serious and actually wanna know a trick that might get you back in.
just make sure your Cgpa is below 2.0 = withdrawal
just work hard, things will be okay : /
Anyways, Ive never been in this situation, but my friend has. She just decided to go to college and i dont think she has any desire to come back to SFU.
and yea...university isn't for everybody
my grades for this semester
D
C+
C-
which calculates to a gpa of under 2.0
i'm expecting a letter any day of the week now
i don't know whether to continue in college or pick out a new major or just drop out of school alltogether
i have so much thinking to do because this is like a turning moment in my life
if u want to continue schooling and whatnot, u need to look into the colleges and transferable credits, applications, and stuf like that
If I were you, I'd go to BCIT, take a semester there and then come back. It's much easier to transfer back since many of their programs have equivalent credits to the ones offered at SFU.
I would honestly go talk to an academic advisor at school, just call them and make an appointment. Once your out, it takes a while to get back in because you'll have to go to college and get a high gpa (which could be higher than your original admission gpa).
Criminology is 2.25
Computing Science is 2.0
Nevertheless, maybe take some time off to clear your head and think about what you really want to do....maybe work for a while. College is prolly your best bet and you can just work really hard there and then maybe come back to SFU. Good luck tho with whatever you choose.
If it is 2.0 then i'm ok because macm screwed me over. I don't know if I could pull 2.4...
Sooner or later these questions will be asked by anyone serious enough about getting back in. If you are such a person, then you will find resolution and certainly you will grow as an individual. We all make mistakes, but please do not go on this forum posting about how badly you got it. We all got it bad at some point in our lives. Don't make yourself out to be a victim; rather, take a step back, examine your life, and ask yourself the relevant questions. You obviously made decisions that contributed to you doing so badly in university; now take responsibility for those decisions and do the best you can while dealing with their consequences.
Kevin's advice about taking time off is excellent. Sometimes you just need it either to deal with any issues you have. Had you not been kicked out, you'd probably continue making the mistakes you did. Time off will help you grow. Work for a while and arrive at the realization that a university education is your ticket out of menial, blue-collar labour. Or go to a college, since working towards the goal of getting back into university will prepare you for the work that is required when you eventually re-enrol. Either way, you're not totally fucked.
And sure there's a way to get back in (I already mentioned it). Go to college and work your hardest there.

Everything is speculation unless you've looked at this website -- before transferring to SFU from college (fresh from high school and knew nothing about credits, gpa's or anything) I checked this site everyday.
EVERYDAY.
I think I was a bit obsessive, but it proved very useful in the end.
Just remember that it's not the end of the world. When in college, the majority of the people I met had no intention of staying in college (wanted to transfer) -- that was my motivation.
behold the official quote: how many total credits do you have so far? read the section about extended withdrawal
I get no respect, no respect I tells ya!
