Looks like we have an anti-religion advocate in our mist. Say, weren't you Chen Shen, the first year guy who tried to run for senate? I recognize your avatar.
indeed, if i remember correctly it was only the Facebook group that had the avatar, seems like it's actually useful then.
oh and a minor correction: I'm not anti religion, I'm anti all bullshit (e.g. superstition, misrepresentation of information, outright lies, etc).
LOL. Wow, hey Chen Shen. Graham Templeton, here, thanks for the backup on my religion article in the peak all that time ago. I actually got yelled at by some chick because she thought your letter was me writing under a pseudonym. haha

I guess that's why I didn't get any hate for it :P
The President of Iran says "gays are bad. being gay is a crime" - people call him homophobic and crazy. These same people say "polygamy is bad. polygamy is a crime"
Hypocrisy anyone?
I say live and let live. It's none of my business if some Mormon sect wants to live that way.

Polygamy IS a crime.

Documents recovered from the compound suggested that they are FORCING teenage girls to have sex with 50+ year old men. These teenage girls are also regulary beaten and raped by the men they are forced to marry.
It is absolutely absurd that these pedophiles are playing the religious persecution card. This has nothing to do with religion, this is about enforcing basic human rights that we are all entitled to. It is also sick that these people are using religion to justify their despicable actions. I honest hope that Mitt Romney will have another go in 2012 and include banning polygamy and polygamist religious sects as his campaign platform.

Well one, he says there arent any gay people in Iran period, its a north american phenomenon. Which does make him crazy to actually believe or say that....anyway
Polygamy in itself is not wrong if the participants are willing and aware; however, mormonism like a lot of religions are just plain awful. There are kids growing up in these sects being molested at young ages, and boys being socially isolated at young ages. We cant just crack down on mormons, unless we want to crack down on all the religious crackpots in the world, which unfortunately may never happen
Don't crack down on one religion unless you want to do them all, cause none of them are anymore valid than the next.

not to point fingers but these people aren't the only one who play the religious card.. i'm sure the priests had their fair share of fun in that.. =) which reminds me of what Marx said about religion being the opium of people.. that in itself.. is an impressive statement that holds a certain truth we all seem to overlook whether we religious ourselves or not..
the priests that do, do that thing thats been popping up in today's culture is not defended by their religion, it's merely hidden by the institution that says its wrong, which is where the irony is
while polygamous mormon sects try to defend their choices by religion
the second half of what you said is very true though
yes but still hiding behind the religious card is it not? i didn't as far into as thinking about the differences...my knowledge of this area is quite limited..:embarassed: i was thinking more in general terms..
i once heard a priest in a gathering talking about how modern practices violate the original intentions of the bible and of jesus.. in particular he mentioned that during his journey in spreading the word of god.. jesus often travelled with prostitutes and homosexuals to whom he showed genuine care and love for.. but now we hear from this institution banning same sex marriages and denouncing the idea of legalizing prostitution.. what ever happened to the "love thy neighbour" thing?
note that i overheard this from a priest (wasn't really able to verify this credentials at that time) and has never read the bible so i don't know the real story behind jesus' journey and what not.. i'm sure there are other examples to be drawn to clarify the point... but very ironic indeed..
