Class 5 Road Test - Easiest places?

edited April 2009 in General
I'm hoping to get my Class 5 driver's license soon, and was wondering if any of you have advice on the best/easiest places to get it from. I've heard Richmond is good and Point Grey is horrible.

Anything on Coquitlam and North Vancouver? Those seem to have lots of free slots and I want mine ASAP.

Richmond's easy because it's flat and it's a like a big square grid lol. Having said that, I've also heard the invigilators mark a little harder in Richmond because of the easier terrain (and because they're pissed off from all the goddamn Asian people who can't drive).

do it in Burnaby (its close to SFU)
i did mine there (by accident), showed up 10mins late cuz i thought my test was in Coquitlam lol

^But the roads in Richmond, compare to place like Coquitlam and North Vancouver, are rather busy.

Don't do it in Coquitlam by joey tomatoes.

I have failed there twice and I have since heard that is one of the hardest places to do it.

Coquitlam aint that bad... its just some examiners have a very long and wide stick up their ass.
for example they failed me (when i got my N) for "driving too slow" the guy took me on some street covered in potholes and i drove @ 40 so we wouldn't bounce around inside the car like a toy inside a kinder surprise in the hands of a toddler.
the same guy failed some girl for "driving too slow" on the highway.. she went 90... which is the speed limit, she started crying after her exam and hes like "hey u were holding up traffic" i was like WOOW!!! did anyone else hear that?! lol

richmond is pretty damn easy, most of the testers are easy going. just make sure to chat with them so they pay less attention.

regardless of where you take the test, if your not a shitty driver it shouldnt be too bad.

See, that doesn't make sense at all because don't they make a big deal out of ~AUTOMATIC FAIL IF YOU EXCEED THE SPEED LIMIT~? What a douche.

    exactly...
i passed in burnaby with 6 counts of speeding on my exam
my examiner was like "your a fast driver, but these days who isn't" lol
  • edited April 2009
I swear, these days, most of the time it's more dangerous driving slow than it is fast haha =P

lmao ya 2 camps of thought
    1) drive fast, therefore u spend less time on the road so less chance to get hit but higher chance to hit someone :P

    2) drive slow, more time spent on road, more chance to get hit by type 1 above :P

fast driver? coming from the guy who says he drives like a grandpa? wow, your examiner must drive like a granny who cant see over the wheel then :P

if u drive stick, richmond would a tad easier with the flat terrain

I got my N when I did it at the Coquitlam. Easy peasy!

well the car i drove for exam was imported from the US and the spedo was in miles so she was basically guessing my speed by the "feel" as she put it lol

If you can't pass your test where you live (aka where you normally drive) you shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Surrey? I took it at Surrey. I had to go through some suburban areas, but there's tons of parks and schools that you have to be aware of.

I had a really obese instructor and he could barely move in my car. I went over the speed limit numerous times but he couldn't see my odometer because he was too fat/lazy to turn his head.

    i wanna agree with you,
but it could be harder to take it in a place u don't live since u wont know where the parks/school zones are. u wont know certain intersections that are no right turns etc. so u have to be way more attentive during the exam

You'll also be creating more pissed off type 1's at an exponential rate. Moral of the story: LET'S ALL DRIVE FREAKINNNNNNN' FAST!!! lol jkz

I think he's primarily responding to how the OP is trying to find the easiest place. He makes a good point.. never thought about that.

I agree with you, and would sign up at Point Grey (my district) except that I'm under a time constraint and it's all booked up till mid-June (i.e. for reasons I won't specify here, I'd like to get it sometime between May 20-31).

I got my N on my first try at Point Grey so don't you worry.

lol i took my n test with him, hes the nicest guy there though, hopefully i get him for my class 5.
But yea what agent bob says is true about the schools and parks...watch out for the signs, and when the school/park zones end

Funny that you mention school/ park zones Lazyguy. There is this joke among my mom and her friends about why Richmond is the best place to get their driver's license. The joke said that it is because there are school/ park zones everywhere in Richmond, therefore, they are not pressured to drive faster. Afterall, they dislike driving fast.

more importantly would be what time you do it. i'd suggest saturday morning when the roads are more empty.

    really?
one of my friends who took driving classes was told the opposite by his instructor. his advice was pick a time when the roads are busy, since the exam is 40min - 1hour ull mostly spend ur time in bumper to bumper traffic therefore u wont be tested on as much and less chances for u to make mistakes.

I got my class 5 in Burnaby (the one near the Swiss Chalet on Boundary/Henning).

Easiest 20 minutes of my life. Yes, 20 minutes, lol.

i did it on a saturday morning, no traffic whatsoever, flew through my exam in 20 minutes. i'd rather work for 20 minutes than sit in the car with my examiner for 40minutes +. you can only make conversation for so long lol.

if you renew you will be put under the new rules..
    i don't see why u wouldn't just get ur class 5...

I've taken both my Class 7 and 5 in Richmond, so obviously I'm going to suggest Richmond. I had my test at about 10:30 in the morning which was perfect because all the highways were clear of any traffic. I didn't hit any traffic... merging on and off the highway was a piece of cake..no asshole drivers who won't let you merge lol. Most of my friends passed on their first try in Richmond.. and for my N test, i had quite a few little mistakes but still passed... so I'd say it's easy.. But then again, I've been in Richmond my whole life so I'm used to the roads - may you're better off taking the test in an area where your comfortable w/ the roads?

But anyway, I'd suggest taking it at a time with no traffic, and if you can drive like others have said, you really shouldn't have any problems.
