regalia

edited April 2010 in General
I'm wondering if anyone or someone you know ever purchased custom-made regalia for convocation. I'd like to keep the whole outfit if I do decide to attend the ceremony in June. Additionally, I noticed that the rental regalia only come in sizes measured by heights only, so I'm worried it won't fit me.

Don't worry about the sizes. They let you try everything at the reception to see if everything fits before you join the procession. If it doesn't fit according to your number, you can always switch with one that does fit right there.

Bring a friend with you when you try stuff on, and they can tell you if the gown and cap fit correctly.

Personally, I wouldn't purchase one. It's kind of a rip-off, and when will you ever realistically wear it again?? Seriously, it will probably end up in a garage sale some day when we're 50, along with those lululemon yoga pants and Obama t-shirts that we all have hiding in our closets.

Thank you very much, historydude. I'm still indecisive about attending the convocation, but I'll figure it out.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want to go?

Well, I just think spending all morning sitting there and waiting for receiving a piece of paper which I can pick up at Student Services later on is kind of waste of time. Besides, the ceremony, in my opinion, is a little impersonal, so why not just let family and friends who have been supportive and whom I care about join me at home. It's just people celebrate differently, and I like it quiet. Having said that, I enjoy people enjoy celebration.
