Taking a term off

edited March 2012 in General
Hi, I am currently a first-year Engineering student at SFU.
This is my second semester at SFU right now and I was wondering if I can take a term off during 2012 Summer.
I was placed in academic probation last semester, but I did pretty good in this spring term and I think I'll get over 2.00 GPA.
The problem is, I did really really bad in last semester and if my GPA is still not over 2.00 including first and second semester even though I do well in this term. Can I still take a term off while I am in Continue in Academic Probation?

Fall 2011 GPA<0, Spring 2012 GPA>0, Fall 2011+Spring 2012<0 (If in this situation)

I need to visit my grandparents in overseas and I think I should take one semester off during the summer but I am worried if the school won't let me come back in Fall 2012 because my marks are bad..

  • oops made a mistake what i meant was,

    Fall 2011 GPA<2.00, Spring 2012 GPA>2.00, Fall 2011+Spring 2012<2.00
  • I don't think a semester off counts, so you should probably be fine. but you should probably double check with an academic advisor if you're worried.
  • Yes, you can take a term off. As long as you are not required to withdraw (RTW), you will be allowed back.
