Take Math 157 vs Math 150 again?

edited April 2012 in General
Hi im in first year compsci and unfortunately i need to redo math150 (got a D). i was just wondering if it would be better to take math 157 instead? that way it would not show that i did a 'repeat' on my transcript right? i know you need to get atleast a B+ in order for 157 to count though.

  • I think if you take 157 instead of 150, a "repeated" mark will still be shown on you transcript. One guy posted his transcript onto his personal website. He had got transferred credits for 151, but he repeated 157 in one term. His transcript is shown below. (Some part is hidden due to privacy concerns.)

    MATH 151 Calculus I 3.00 0.00 TR
    Repeated : Repeated - Excluded - 200x-xx-xx

    MATH 157 Calculus for Social Sciences I 3.00 3.00 A 12.000
    Repeated : - Included in GPA - 200x-xx-xx

It's better to ask your academic adviser.

  • Yeah nikoliage is right I've heard that you need to take exactly the same class for the repeat to override your original grade even if you took 151 which is essentially the same class it would not override your old mark.
  • If you take Math 157 it WILL count as a repeated course of Math 150. I would do Math 150 again. Math 157 is easier than 150 but it's not easy to get B+. Math 150 prepares you better for your next calculus course too. Do 150 or 151 again. The second time you take 150 or 151 it will be definitely easier.
  • Thanks for all the input everyone! Taking it next semester.
