SFU Arts (geography) to UBC Arts (geography)

edited June 2012 in General
Has anyone done this or thought about doing this? If so can you share some tips or can you tell me what courses successfully transferred for you? I'm trying to transfer in one year...I know there's the langara route but I would like to know more about this route.

I was looking at the BC transfer guide and majority of the SFU courses are labeled:

" This course has not yet been assessed for transfer credit. Credit will be determined when an offer of admission is made. In general, all course work completed by transfer students during the first two years of university study in Canada will be recognized and fully credited for the purposes of granting a degree.

It looks like the final decision will be when UBC admissions assess it....So assuming that with good grades/gpa, which courses had successfully transferred for you?

  • 100% of the courses *should* transfer between SFU and UBC because both are members of the Western Dean's Agreement. Look it up and know it well, because that's your avenue of appeal if they reject a single credit.

A bigger problem will be how courses transfer into prerequisites. You may find that you're locked out of required 3rd and 4th year courses if you didn't take UBC's 2nd year course (and it's 1st year prerequisite).

Make an appointment and get out to UBC to talk to a councilor or advisor ASAP. If there are UBC-only courses you need to take now, use the WDA to take them while at SFU.
