Is it possible to take 1-2 courses during one co-op term?

edited March 2013 in General
I know all of the co op advisors and people say it's not recommended to take any courses at all during your co op term because u will be working full time...but I don't want to be behind in credits.

Has anyone here actually taken one or two courses when doing co op, is it okay as long as employers are ok? And not all co-op terms will be 9-5 for 40 hrs a week will it?

Thank You in advance! I plan on taking maybe one course in the evening so that I won't take 6 years to graduate since I'm already quite behind on credits.

  • I've worked 40 hours and taken one class distance ed, it wasn't tough at all. Probably depends on the courses.
  • I'm working 32 hours weekly on a co-op (4 day weeks) and taking 2 courses - one dist ed, one night course. This isn't really an ordinary arrangement though, they'll usually want you full-time, and you'll usually only be allowed 1 course. (with supervisor and co-op office permission)

If you have any easier courses to get out of the way, those are probably your best options imo.

Unless you're super motivated it can be a little hard to come home after work and then spend the night doing homework / studying.
  • You need permission from your employer in order to enroll in courses during a coop term. From there they limit how many courses you can take....It is either 1 or 2...but I can't seem to find a link that confirms that.
  • Thanks guys, ooh okay i see. Yeah I would think that doing the course as an easy elective or via distant ed would be my best pick

For those in co op right now, is it very busy work and is the work day long? I've never actually worked full time anywhere, so this whole co op thing seems very daunting, lol.

I only worked part-time and then full time at fast food for like a day and i was already so tired haha.
