Why are co-op fees so high?

edited April 2013 in General
i have my first co-op position this summer and i signed up for the course you're to enroll in and it comes to around $700 just for 'tuition' - excluding the UG student activity fee (which is ridiculous, im on co-op im not going to be going up to campus why in the hell am i still being charged) and upass fee. how come it costs more than a course usually would?! each course of mine is usually around $500 or so.

  • Well the coop program is a service the school provides. They provide things like BOL I/II, resume, cover letter, and interview workshops, and one on one support. You also get coop credits, if you are into that kinda thing. Then when you get a job you pay a coop fee.

Whether or not you feel you get $700 worth of value from what they provide is a personal thing. Personally The coop jobs I have gotten have been much better than jobs I would have likely been able to get on my own, and have paid enough to make the $700 well worth while.
  • If you feel that way, then look for a job yourself.
imo, it's worth it since you get all this training, advising, they provide you lots of connections to many companies, polishing everything you have so you can land a successful coop job.
you are going to make back that money anyways, and money is not the main purpose of your coop.

  • real life experience is invaluable for getting a job after grad. its only 500 bucks lol
  • Then don't do co-op if you think its so expensive..... but I can almost guarantee you are not going to find a job nearly as good on your own
  • try selling your upass, people are willing to buy each month's upass for $100 (do at your own risk though)
  • Because maryjewwanna is quite abundant in what they refer to as the region of thy BC Bud. That is why, co-op fees are so high.
