Dropping & swapping classes, help!!

edited May 2013 in General
So I am enrolled into EDUC 220, but want to swap the class for LING 200 instead. I'm a bit worried because I was initially enrolled into ENGL 340 and swapped it for EDUC 220. I was put on the waitlist and when I got enrolled into the class, I was still enrolled into the English class... which I thought was supposed to be dropped when I got into the class I swapped it for.

I'm afraid that the same thing will happen again if I swap this class for another one because the only available space at the moment for LING 200 is on the waitlist. How does swapping classes work? Does it work if I'm put on the waitlist? Can it only be possible to swap if the classes are the same subject (ie. English for another English)? Someone explain!

Also, how many courses can we drop per semester? The website was saying there is a 50$ penalty (which I'd be paying) for each class dropped, but the max penalty to be paid can be 100$. Does this mean I can only drop two classes?

  • I've never swapped for a class with a waitlist.  I'm guessing as soon as you get into the class (off of the waitlist) they'll drop you out of the other class.

$100 is the maximum they can charge you.  So if you drop 4 classes, the maximum they can charge you is $100.
  • I know that if you swap classes, it will drop the class you are in and put you in the waitlist for the class you want. This is the same for tutorials. Pretty much all swapping does is drop the selected course and then adding the class for what you want. If there is a waitlist then you must wait.

I've only dropped 1 course before so I'm not sure if you can drop more than 2.
