Need some advices in dropping a course..

edited May 2013 in General
Hi all,
I am currently taking cmpt 225, math 310 and math 251, and the workload is crazy
310 has difficult bi-weekly assignment, math 251 has weekly assignment and quiz, and cmpt 225 has long and tedious assignment
the workload is pretty overwhelming that makes me thinking dropping a course
the thing is, these 3 courses are all my core course ( i am joint major in computing science and math)
dropping cmpt 225 will slow my progress down significantly, as I intend to take 275 next sem and co-op in spring 2014(so far I have only taken cmpt 150, 120, and 125 for computing science)
but I have Anne Lavergne as my instructor, she doesn`t really teach.. which increase the burden of me reading the textbook .
for 310 and 251 I have chiaka drakes, she is an amazing prof, I have heard people take 310 with different prof and ended up not understanding a thing

I am in a dilemma in which I don`t know whether I should just stay or drop one course, and if I do, which one
I feel like dropping the course now wastes my parents money

thanks

  • If you honestly can't handle it, and you fail a course or 2, then you are wasting even more money and time as well. I know 225 has a big workload and assignments take forever and sometimes are frustrating especially if you have lavergne. I would advise not to take 2 core math courses at the same time as it is difficult to keep up. I dropped out the first week of 310 because i knew i wasn't going to handle the workload along with 275 (also i dont need it since im a math minor). If i was you I would just stick with it and bare it out for the semester. it's kind of too late to drop courses without penalties anyways. but its up to you.
