minor

edited June 2013 in General
i am starting my 4th year but i will be here for 5 years taking only 3 courses each semester due to prereqs and offerings. I wanted a minor but never decided and now im thinking it is too late! has anyone gotten a minor last minute? is there any real benefits for a minor? i was thinking a minor in hsci or bio but i would still need 8 courses for each one and gerontology i could get in only 5 and one class overlaps with my degree. any input?

  • A minor is useless.  I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.
  • useless, don't bother
  • It can't be completely useless. I think it just depends on the combination for instance you could do like History and minor in Anthropology or something I don't know.

^^It can help you but in a small way...it just says "yeah I also did this aside from my main focus of study, look at this extra star they gave me"
  • ^^ A lot of majors are pretty much useless (the real value being they are just university degrees).  Degrees are the new high school diploma, even to be a janitor you need post-secondary courses at many places.

In the real world, minors are useless, they just take up some space on a resume.
  • ^^lies. 90% of Craigslist ads for janitor is like must have completion of Gr. 12, have reliable car, own cleaning tools and references lol.
