what is relatively easy W course for first year student?

edited July 2013 in General
I really want to avoid hard writing course since English is my second language.

ENGL199W - university writing
HUM 102w - classical mythology

I am thinking of taking one of these two as Distant Education.
I would love to take it on campus, but I can't  due to time schedule.

Which one would you recommend for student who suck at English?
Please recommend other relatively easy W course if you know any.

I know all writing course will require a lot of writing and reading English text.
I just want to take relatively easier W course :)

Thank you.

  • Math 208w is a nice w course. Just requires calc 1. If you're alright at math its an excellent course. I'm saying the writing portion is very easy, you basically just do alot of math in excel and do a couple of article summaries which you will be allowed to rewrite if you don't like your mark. its only offered yearly each spring but I highly recommend it, its not hard math either, its easier than calc 1. Iat 103W is another easy course, I got an A and I suck at writing.
  • ^wtf? there's a WRITING course in Math?
  • There are a handful actually..
  • you sure it's not just algebra with the x's and y's lol
  • 199w is actually a pretty intense course, so if you are looking for something easy I would choose something else. In HUM 102 the papers are generally quite short so that is an option. There is quite a bit of readings to familiarize yourself with though, and some find the tests difficult (they often contain quote recognition). MATH 208 is a good suggestion if you want something light on writing. I took it a couple of years ago and it was very manageable.
  • lol Engl 199 is a writing class and probably has the most amount of writing than any other first year class.  If you want to avoid writing, don't take it.
  • But ENGL 199 is pretty neat in that you learn about proper university writing. Coming up with a thesis, arguments, fallacies in writing etc. There's some citation exercises but it's not that hard once you get the hang of it.
Your grade will be mostly determined by the essays you hand in.
  • I honestly wouldn't recommend ENGL 199W first semester or with Michele Valiquette...  It's very subjective in my opinion, and she picks favourites.

I thought ENGL 101W was pretty easy.  I took it with Niall Mackenzie and he was an absolute peach.

Also, EDUC 100W is great for using APA format for the first time.  One dude in my class didn't even have a references page and he still got a B+.
  • Im taking psy201. By the way, English isn't my mother tongue.
