Decent/Good but cheap Asian place to get my hair cut?

edited July 2013 in General
As the title suggests, anyone know of a decent to good but also cheap place to get my hair cut (ex. barber, salon, w/e, etc)? Must be located in the Vancouver, BC area. Ideally I'm looking for a place that around possibly $10-20 or so, maybe a bit more if needed.

Basically, I've left my hair to grow out for almost two years. Haven't gotten a single cut or even a trim in those two years so my hair is really long. It's typical straight long black hair. Oh, and I'm also Asian (Chinese) and male. I'm trying to keep the length but trim it so it looks tidy and neat. Also aiming to have my hair layered as well. Don't want a place that will screw me over because they don't know what they're doing and end up making me look terrible (since it seems quite easy to mess this up as a male with long hair..).

  • Dude just pay like 12 bucks at Great Clips and get your shit cut. Stop being Asian with your naruto anime hair and just cut it lol.

If you're really desperate though I have a friend who's in the hair business as a stylist and can probs do whatever gay shit you wanna do with your hair.
  • Never had "naruto anime hair" before. Last time I went to a cheap standard place like that two years ago, I ended up sporting the manliest 80's Western mullet and ended up a laughing stock for a year.
  • There's always good ol' Yelp:

  • Just get a number 7 buzzcut and no one will ever laugh at you and you will be manly.
  • Trying to get long hair so I can be a samurai, no kidding. I've been told my facial features and stature resemble a Japanese samurai man.
  • Afro Samurai doesn't have long Asian naruto manga hair.
  • I'm not trying to get long Asian Naruto manga hair. I heavily disapprove of any hair product, whether its wax, gel, etc...and would never use them.

Currently I have my hair tied into a ponytail but it's getting rather messy.
  • lol BeanBean you probably have a shaved head with a ponytail....
  • lmao no I have rastafarian anwar dreadlocks golf wang
  • Sorry BeAn, but you're just being a dick here. If you aren't here to help then just don't say anything.
There are people here that care how they look and no ones to tell them it's "gay shit."
Great Clips are all good, its just that they don't have the style he's looking for. So there.

Anyways, I'm not too sure where in Vancouver, because usually for your style, your best bet is in Richmond. I don't think you'll like my place as it's past your budget but best thing you can do is ask around, or ask friends where they go. It's risky to go to a random place (i know from experience) but always go by referrals if you can.
  • I didn't mean gay shit in a derogatory way lol. It's just like pointless stuff in my opinion for hair that 90% of Asians do especially men and spend money/time to make it look all pretty. And I was well aware I was being a dick, but you can't say I didn't help. I DID offer him my friend who's a hair stylist and can do all that extra asian shit for him.
  • Honestly though, I don't understand why it's usually Asian guys who care so much about their hair and like to have it all long and stuff. Most girls I've known say it's a turn off when guys care about their hair so much because that's what girls do and they prefer it short. For me, cheaper the better, spend less money on fashion and more on investing on important stuff.
  • Could you give me a little more detail on your friend?

Oh, and I am asking for something cheap....that's why I mentioned roughly $10-$20.
I've seen people get $100+ haircuts.
  • Well have you ever thought that maybe asians have a different culture than caucasian people? Hey maybe a white girl might not like an asian guy with asian fashion but different people cater to different types of people. And guys being fashionable is not in anyway unimportant or pointless. A man not only has to be smart, and courteous but also care about himself and make an effort to look good too. I'm sure you know that right? And real men are not jackasses or look down on people. So lets just be men here and keep this controlled :) I may have some pet peeves but i keep it to myself and not project negativity around.
  • Yeah sure no one wants to look like a slob. But I find that it gets to the point that it is just abnormal. Again I'm not saying this guy in particular but the general trend with Asians. And I ain't white so it's not about that. I think the hair thing and all the fashion caring is the opposite of "manly".
  • Your husband.
  • And my definition of manly consists of elements from Western socialization norms of "manliness" and large time devotions towards hair is not one of them.
  • but I love you.
  • Was that a racist Asian remark?
  • How did you manage to grow your hair for so long? I tried to but it got to the point where it was starting to get too much of a nuisance lol, I'll try again this time :D
