Re-admission for SFU Beedie after dropping out first year

edited September 2013 in General
So I recently dropped out of my ensc program at SFU because i felt like if i try and pursue this path, I will fail. Therefore, I dropped out of this program within the first week of school. Currently I am applying for SFU Beedie in Spring 2014 with an average of 88.75%(Phy12:90%;Eng12;78%(with provincial); Math 12: 90%; Chem:97%) with a community youth award along with some entrepreneur involvement. What I want to ask, is that is it still possible for me to get into Beedie, after dropping out of the ENSC program with these grades and these kind of involvement?

  • You sound like a good candidate for it. If I were to give one piece of advice though I would suggest not dropping out of ensc just yet.

With the grades you have you sound like you should be perfectly capable of succeeding in ensc. ENSC is definitely a difficult major, but it is not impossible. Plus almost everyone finds it hard, so you are all in it together. University can be intimidating when you are first starting out, and courses especially in the first few weeks can seem scary. If you still have the option, and are passionate about engineering, I would give it another go. If after the semester you still want to switch into business then you can use the courses you took as breadths.

Oh, I already dropped out of ENSC, and my mentor and I have discussed about my issues in ENSC before I dropped out and came with a result that engineering is not a good fit for my personality. Also, I was wondering when will SFU give me admission because i sent my admission along with my broad-based application on Sep 8 2014
  • I have no idea. I would have been tempted to attempt an internal transfer. Maybe that would have been riskier in the long run though.
  • lol WTF Sept. 8, 2014. Troll or from the future???
  • Don't lie. How did you time travel and what are the winning numbers for tomorrow's lottery tickets. I will split with you.
  • If you don't make it in for Spring I would recommend to stay as an ENSC student, take the business core courses and transfer. You need to complete 7 core courses and have a good GPA in them (3.0+), but it can be easier to transfer in as a SFU student than it is to be accepted from high school.

Based on your grades you should be fine, but if you don't get in it is something to think about.
  • Oh you have to drop out, then you can apply as a highschool student for spring or else i have to apply for fall 2014 because the required business courses are full for this sem. /:
