Also note that the Warton school of business does not allow kids to sell their seats for money. It gives everyone an equal number of points they can use to bid on spaces in elective courses.
ㄴI was half joking and half serious. There ARE students selling a course seat on facebook you know. Really. I just wanted to know how you all think. Of course I am not gonna buy or sell a seat thats so dishonest :p
How does this work though because if you drop it then the 1st position waitlist guy gets it. Unless he/she's the buyer you can't really do that. I would honestly sell seats and reserve courses if I have unused credits to enroll in not gonna lie. Or do what lakerfanatic does and reserve it for friends. But if I have no friends, fuck it I'll sell. $$$ from everywhere to pay tuition.
It only works for a course that doesnt have a waitlist. I guess how it works is that if u have enrollment priority you enroll in course that u wonna sell, get the buyer and arrange the time (exact minute) with them. So the buyer can get into the one empty seat right after u drop it. BUT DONT DO IT. You will get into trouble.
^In that situation, why not take your chances and wait to see if someone actually drops it?
I've only heard of one way you could do this if there was a waitlist. If the course is offered in two locations (i.e. Burnaby and Surrey) and people really want to get a seat at Burnaby, you could ask an advisor to switch spots with someone at Surrey (while getting paid by the person who has the Surrey seat). However, that takes a lot of coordination and you could probably only pull it off once before advisers get suspicious.
@lakerfanatic I will pay you in sexual molestation. um how do you get in trouble though. not like they monitor stuff like this @noel2013 and even if they did they don't know who is colluding
@ezc Well, the thing is you dont know when ppl are gonna drop their course and you just can't be watching goSFU 24/7. The best you can do is to check goSFU frquently and only for a few minutes. The chace of someone dropping a seat exactly at the moment you happen to be watching is extremely low. Even if someone drops it while ur watching someone else could get in. Plus ppl are not likely to drop out of popular course for no reason.
@BeAnBeAn I think SFU monitors and have a record of who drops/gets into courses at which time. So if someone with a low GPA "coincidentally" gets into their major course, SFU might be suspicious.
@noel2013 that makes no sense. If there is no waitlist then anyone, regardless of how low their GPA is can get in if someone drops and you check SIS at the right time...
@crimematic. The purpose of priority by GPA is to make it more difficult for ppl with low GPA to enroll, not make them impossible to enroll.
Getting in a course because you check goSFU at the right time is possible, but extrememly low chance. People with higher GPA has an advantage because they can enroll very easily without the hassle of checking goSFU every minute and leaving it on the luck.
Some courses like crim really has no waitlist capacity. Dont ask me I didnt make goSFU.
@noel2013 During my second semester, I got a late enrolment date, in fact it was like 1 or 2 days before open enrolment (like all second semester students) so I only got into one of my five desired classes (PSYC 102). But during open enrolment, simply by checking SIS numerous times each day I got into CRIM 135, CRIM 104, CRIM 131 and SA 150 (all of which were previously full - only SA 150 had a wait list).
You said SFU monitors enrolment so when students with late dates get into popular classes, its suspicious, my point is that once open enrolment hits, its fair game regardless of GPA.
Even further, just today, I got into CRIM 220 which was full by checking SIS a few times per day. Its a pain in the ass but its more than possible for anyone regardless of GPA, number of credits, etc. which influence your enrolment date to get into a no wait-list class
@ezc I don't think all 1st years are that high. All first semester first year students get an early date, but starting your second semester you get pushed to the bottom behind second years and work your way up, or at least that's the way it seems from my experience and all my friends
@ezc Actually SFU does have priority based on GPA. But it's within further prioritizing so if someone has exact same creds as you, no scholarship but you have higher GPA, you will have an earlier enrollment time. And it isn't really by year but rather credits. So again, one or two credits more from taking 4-cred courses would give you an earlier enrollment time over others in the same year.
@crimematic Yeah you're right. Second semester 1st years are shit too. They only get it for first semester so they can take the stuff they want and register for SFU. If they couldn't get desired courses, they wouldn't go to SFU and SFU loses precious $$$
@crimematic. Oh u got into CRIM220??? I AM SO ENVIOUS OF YOU. Ur so lucky man,
And yeah, I am finishing up my second year second semester and my enrollment was just like shit. I am a crim major but i barely got two crim courses. Second year students are like the bottom of bottom for SFU.
Yeah but the distance education version so I don't know how great it will be. I guess it wont be too bad, two assignments worth 20% each, two quizzes worth 15% each (I love dist ed. classes with quizzes because you can use notes) and a final exam worth 30%. No participation.
@crimematic. If u change ur mind and want to drop the crim course, do u mind helping me out and set up the time with me so I can get into the course when u drop it? Just in case...
Thanks laker. I already got into Crim135 and i cant take 230 because I didnt finish 135 yet. I'd love to take crim213 though.
What time did u check? I check like 10 times today but 213 was closed every time. Also doesnt crim355 has any prequisites? I only have like 30 credits btw.
@AlCaponeSpamming is the illegitimate racket of your foolish ass.
@crimematic How are the assignments only worth 20%? In the non-dist ed. version you have to write a 15-20 page paper which is the basis of the course since it's Research Methods of Criminology.
@lakerfanatic How are you monitoring the courses so well?
The links dont work. But is the course at Burnaby? I only want to take courses at Burnaby. Isnt the one you saw located at another campus? I am pretty sure all CRIM213 at burnaby are closed...and not likely to repoen. Thanks though.

It's a risk, but if you are willing to go to that course even if the transfer between two sections doesn't go through it's worth a shot.
