What to Review for Math 251

I'm in computer science, but I'm considering a switch into operations mathematics(I like it better). I took 152 in the Fall and I'm taking 251 this summer. What are the topics of 151/152 that I should be reviewing so that I'm not way behind when the class beings?

  • Why? Why are you doing this to yourself? I hated 251 with a passion and the class average for the final was ridiculously low with a majority of the students failing. The guy behind me during the final exam was hyperventilating. Anyways, you should be very familiar with the fundamentals of calculus. You should be able to do integration and differentiation in your sleep. Review how vectors and vector fields work. I wish you good luck and I really hope you reconsider. Computing Science is miles more fun than math. But if that's what you want then go ahead. Don't say I didn't warn you.
  • @Tofu how did you like 151/152? I know a lot of people have said it is much easier. Who did you take it with?
  • 251 isn't that bad, the class was like redoing 151 and 152 together with an additional variable. I got Bs in both 151 and 152 and did just fine in 251. If you enjoy math the class should be nothing to worry about. Remember how to do basic derivatives and integrals and you'll be set. And is it the operations research program you're interested in?
  • @112233 I enjoy math and they've been my best courses so far (I got As in Calc I and II and a B+ in MACM 101, currently taking 201 and got a 95 on the first midterm). The operations research program is what I'm looking at.
  • 151 was alot easier. 152 was a little harder but still pretty easy. I regret 251 because I thought it would just be like 151/152 and it was kinda fun. Nope. I regret it. I pulled out with a C+ when I should have gotten an F. The curve was unbelievably generous judging by how the class did.
  • @Tofu who did you take 251 with?
  • I had Mahdad Khatirinejad Fard. He's a good prof and all. Very clear, examples in class were easy to follow. Exams are brutal though. I think some of them are alot harder than any questions we got for hw.
