New categories based on faculty

Do you think we should categorize questions/discussions based on what faculty they apply to? Right now there is only one category, "General" so I was thinking we can probably break that down into more specific categories.

Let me know your thoughts!

  • I think it's a good idea, but there is overlap between faculties sometimes.
  • I think it's a great idea. It would help with looking for discussions or answers more specifically. Much better than looking through everything. I think "General" category should be kept though; not all questions can be categorized.

Sounds good, thanks for the feedback. I took a look, and there are 8 official faculties at SFU:

    Applied Science
    Arts & Social Sciences
    Business
    Communication, Art & Technology
    Education
    Environment
    Health Sciences
    Science

That might be too many categories.. should we do like the 4 main ones, and 1 general/other category?

I feel like we don't have enough discussions popping up for this to be really helpful. For me, it'd end up being more of an inconvenience having to click through categories to see new discussions.

Edit: Unless you mean changing the tag, i just noticed, on each of the discussions, then yeah i'm all for it
  • Yeah, but it would be nice to have the regular discussions list, and have a list of categorys in the sidebar to filter the discussions (useful if you are just browsing). Going to have to think about it some more...
