Are SoSy students allowed to take CMPT 475? + Thoughts on CMPT 489?

It seems similar to CMPT 373, but nothing is mentioned on the course outline that if you've taken 373 you can't take 475 (however it does say the converse on the 373 page...).

I have a feeling I'll be blocked from it in any case. They should really update the CS schedules - for all the classes I'm looking into none of the professors are mentioned and enrollment is this week? What a joke. C'mon FAS get it together. Along with changing schedules/profs last minute (and not informing students on top of that!) this kind of nonsense is just the cherry on top of the many other reasons why I want out of here.

Also CMPT 489 is a special topics course in Programming Languages with Rob Cameron. Has anyone had any experience specifically with this kind of course or instructor? Would you recommend it? I really enjoyed 383 but had it with Toby Donaldson. Thanks!

Hmmmmm, it looks like you can. CMPT 475 used to be Software Engineering II. When that was the case you could not get credit for both CMPT 373 and CMPT 475 (see https://portal.cs.sfu.ca/portal/outlines/1151-CMPT-475-E200/ as an example)

Now though CMPT 475 has been renamed to Requirements Engineering and it no longer has the mention to CMPT 373 (https://portal.cs.sfu.ca/portal/outlines/1161-CMPT-475-E100/ )

So if you want to take it you should be able to.

For 489 I haven't taken it. I like Rob Cameron though.

Yeah like ryan said you can take CMPT 475. I took CMPT 373 and am in CMPT 475 this term. The course isn't the best though and a lot of the content overlaps with other classes.

thanks for all the input, much appreciated! will defs be doing 475 in that case. 489, i will keep on the back burner.
