Faculty with the most girls?

edited March 2015 in General
I come from the applied science faculty and there are little to no girls at all. It's very sad. Sometimes I question why girls don't like programming.
So my question is, where do all them girls major in?  And why?

  • Hahahahaha probably PSYC, English, English Lit, Gender Studies, Communications in order of amount from what I've seen in a general observation.

I think girls "don't like" programming because they aren't exposed to such things growing up as a result of the norms in society. They are given Barbies while boys are given like super secret spy computer equipment and play video games on computers etc. These are the norms of Western society sadly and it's obvious.

I saw this SFU prof I think though, she was European and I was looking at her PhD thesis about something in Computing Science randomly even though I didn't understand it but it made her sooooo sexy.
  • Taking this question at face value, see SFU Institutional Research and Planning's faculty headcount by gender:

  • Do people not know that being a girl in CS and Engineering is so advantageous in the tech industry? You have a better chance at being hired because they want diversity. Honestly it does take some wits to be in applied sciences and a smart girl is a sexy girl. Just don't sacrifice your health and looks because alot of ppl do that in this faculty since they got no time for other stuff.
  • Who cares how you look, there's a reason why Bill Gates looked and sounded like Kermit The Frog and Mark Zuckerberg was an awkward geek and still is.
  • What I'm saying is that people in cs tend to not look after themselves.
  • The tech-world can be either  highly volatile, or extremely welcoming to women of the trade. However, the latter is something that you don't see enough. Don't let the bigotedness stop you from doing what you enjoy. This is a new area within the business of technology, and sexism is just peaking at the top of change. Give it 3 to 4 more years, and you will start seeing a huge change in attitudes  with the industry. You can see the change right now, more women then ever before are graduating with CS degrees, and attending classes for pure interest. So women do like programming. SFU doesn't have a huge diversity, but if you attend BCIT you will see a extreme change in gender diversity.

As for which faculties have the larges % of women... that's a hard question because it's different every semester. I wouldn't even say that Woman studies  has the highest % of women. More men then you think graduate with WS Degrees. But if I  use pure observation, I would have to say Sociology and Psychology has the highest %.
  • theres a lot of women in the core sciences ie. biochemistry and biology
