do courses taken after your degree is finished and you graduate affect your CGPA

hey, I was hoping to apply for grad school next year and I was wondering if the courses I took after graduation at the same institution (SFU) would count towards my CGPA. I took math and engineering courses this semester and I have a feeling they will ruin the CGPA I had when I graduated. I know some schools look at only the last 60 units, but I want my CGPA to stay where it is.

  • Hi itsok, unfortunately once you proceed with your graduation your CGPA is set in stone...forever. Taking courses after you've graduated will do nothing to improve the CGPA attached to your undergraduate degree. You have other options, but none are as good as staying for a couple more semesters and adding in some strong GPA boosters where you know you can pull off A's. Even completing a Post-Baccalaureate, or a Diploma in a similar or different subject will do nothing to affect your CGPA, however most schools will view course work you do after your undergrad as a 'soft' factor. However, in terms of both time and money I would strongly suggest slugging it out and taking a couple courses for another 2 semesters and just working really hard to bring your CGPA up before applying for graduation. Even if the courses are unrelated to your degree it doesn't matter as much as that final number next to 'CGPA', as when you apply to grad or law school you get bracketed prior to anyone taking a closer look at the courses you took, so if lets say you graduate with a 2.99 GPA immediately your put into a 2.5-2.99 bracket rather than say a 3.0-3.5 bracket making a lot of your grad school choices unattainable.
