I want to leave SFU, what should I do?

edited November 2015 in General
Im doing terribly in most of my classes and I feel like I need a fresh start somewhere else. So I was wondering, if I want to leave SFU and have no intent on returning, can i just stop registering for classes and go somewhere else?

Is it truly a fresh start though? Can you really have a fresh start? I thought your GPA and transfer course grades follow with you?

Why not just tough it out and keep going if you haven't been officially kicked out? If you're on academic probation you still have a chance.

You can just stop registering but you have to pay off anything you owe. Don't give up! (That is, assuming there aren't other reasons involved like you want to change your mind on your program/career or can't afford SFU, but I find the tuition not that much of a difference).
  • If you're thinking of staying in BC, have a look at  "How Transfer Works":

(Top tip: "First, get accepted to another school")

  • I had many friends that did the same thing as you. But guess what? Their grades never got better. Some even dropped out after transferring to 2 other schools. The whole fresh start thing is just mental. If I were you, I would just try harder and work on your work habits. I honestly think there's no point in transferring unless its for financial reasons or the school doesn't offer what you want.
  • Go to SLC (Student Learning Commons) workshops or look into BOT (Back on Track) workshops.
  • Yes to what TalkUBC says.  High school and university are two different creatures, and SLC has lots of help re learning and studying:

I think BoTmight be for people on academic probation. Info's at:

There's also thinking about whether university is right for you overall.  A lot of people are pressured by their parents to go.
