CMPT 165

edited August 2007 in General
Hi

I'm going to be taking CMPT 165 in Fall 2007 (dist ed). It's called "Introduction to the Internet and the World Wide Web"
If anybody has taken it, I wanted to know how the final exam is (and the midterm). The prof is greg baker. The reason I ask is because the exam makes up 50% of the final grade, so, well, you know.

Well depends. Can you program at all? Because there are two types of people in this world, those who can program and those who can't. There is no middleground.

If you can program, this class is an instant A.

If you can't program then you are going to have a tough time with this class.

Greg Baker isn't too hard of a prof. As well, so what if the final is 50%? Every class I have taken has had a final worth 50%.

i took it and it was super easy. like JayDub said, there are some people who can pick up programming quite quickly, and then there are people who just get lost and have no idea what to do.

however, the final is mostly based on programming (and this class teaches you the most basic form of programming...), which means that you'll have to do a little bit of critical thinking to work your way through the problems. however the midterm was basically straight out the textbook.

i found the class generally easy. just make sure you ask for help when you need it, as you would do with any other class..

I'm currently taking this class with Baker distance ed. The midterm and a assignment worth 5 percent were all on the same day. First half of the course is a breeze. The midterm is tricky, not at all similar to the sample midterm posted on the course website. Don't know how the final will be like. Everything after the midterm is super hard. If your not into programming or if you have no background whatsoever in it this isn't the course for you. This isn't a beginners class like is stated in the course title. If I were you I wouldnt take it as a distance ed class, I would take it as a actual class.
