Is it common for first years to not do well?

Right now I'm struggling to get low 70's, I'm just starting to learn what markers are looking for in assignments. Do a lot of 1st years have difficulty? Or will I just continue to do worse and worse as the material gets harder? My main game plan is to get my Masters in Journalism (for now anyway) at UBC, so I will eventually have to get at least a B+ average in my last two years. Any advice on how to do better or if this is normal would be helpful. Just kind of freaking out right now haha.

Hey man, unfortunately this is very common first year, and some second year students. University takes a lot of getting used to because it's a totally new experience. Anytime you do something new, it's hard at first but over time it gets easier and you get better at it. This applies to the first time you started high school, the first time you drove, and now university. Just work hard, do what you do best and that is learn.. learn the system, learn what it takes to excel, and make the changes you need to do well over time. Don't be discouraged, most grad schools and employers don't even care about first year marks. Cheers
