Bursaries / work-study

edited February 2014 in General
Bursaries are out.. I only got $1k this year. In previous years I have gotten much higher and usually count on that money to pay my tuition. Pretty stressed out right now...

But I got $1600 in work-study? Does anyone know what this does? How do I access that money??

How did you get 1k in bursary? Are your student loans maxed out? Do you live on your own?
  • Oh shitty. Given they only pay $10.50 an hour to do research, no thanks.
I live on my own and only make about $1000-1200 a month when the semester is in session.. when I have a few weeks off between semesters I work about 60-70 hours a week to save for tuition, etc.
  • Can you tell us a bit about your financial situation and how you got 1k bursary? I've applied for bursaries before, and I haven't gotten any.

For example, do you live alone or with parents? Do you have students loans? Etc.
  • I live alone.. have not lived at home for many years. My family is very low income and do not contribute anything to education. Um what else... no student loans.. as explained though I work 60-70 hours a week whenever there is no school to help save / pay for tuition.

Will be getting a loan next semester however as I have really used all my savings.. I currently have $3 in my bank account and ow $600 on my cc lol.
  • @sfustudent - how about talking to SFU financial aid directly?  Their contact info:
