Thoughts on CHIN100 with Billie Ng?

edited November 2014 in General
How is CHIN100 with Billie Ng? I've studied in Hong Kong for half my life (I'm born there) but Chinese has always been why weakest subject. I also speak cantonese instead of mandarine. I've heard from others that the class turns haywire very quickly and requires a lot of memorization... thoughts?

  • It's really not too bad. But 100 is a beginners course meant for non-chinese speakers. Since you've studied in HK half your life, you prob know how to write Chinese characters and thus this course may be too easy for you. Billie is the director of the language program and will probably doubt your knowledge of not knowing chinese... The first week.. they kinda question all the students's backgrounds to make sure ppl aren't taking this course while knowing most of the materials. A student who had some Chinese background got transferred to another higher lvl class 2 weeks in. I suggest you take the language interview to make sure which course you're better suited for. http://www.lti.sfu.ca/languages_offered/chinese
