edited July 2007 in General
http://www.celebration-of-light.com/ who will be in attendance? and any suggestions of good places to go since they're usually packed with drunk highschool punks.

    Totally not worth it:

    1) There will be drunks there or just wannabe tough-guys fully intent on displaying their machismo in front of their like-minded peers.

    2) Driving is out of the question. The trains will be packed. Hence, going home is no laughing matter.

    3) There's always a fight during the fireworks or someone tends to get stabbed for no reason. Not worth the risk.

I've never missed celebration of lights, the finale is usually the best though. I think the worst place to watch it is when you go down Denman street, thats usually where all the high school kids and surrey hooligans end up. I've never checked it out from the kits beach side wonder how they are over there

i usually go every year, its pretty chill most of the time, just go early and chill with frds on the beach.. but ya there are always some ppl that cause trouble (as with most events)

as for viewing it from kits, its about the same as english bay, but they set it up so its facing english bay, so you can see the exact positioning of the fireworks as intended from there
and if you go to kits bay its skewed to the side, so you dont see the positioning (not that it really matters imo)

i probably won't see it this year.

i went to kits beach to watch it a few times but i didn't enjoy the crowd there either. it was overcrowded, and nobody actually seemed to be watching the fireworks (maybe it was just the area where i was sitting); most of them were high school kids stumbling all over the place exclaiming to the world that they were "sooooooOOoo drunk"

last year i went to Jericho beach and it was soooo much fun. you don't see as much as you would see from english bay/kits but the crowd was chill, less crowded, everyone seemed to be sitting back with either a beer or a glass of wine (but they weren't sloshed or making a scene). i remember it was quiet enough to hear some dude playing some really awesome music on his guitar while the fireworks were playing. :)

haven't seen you post in a while flo-ra. anyways that's one of the reasons why the celebration doesn't last more than 4 days.

plenty of highschool princesses complain about " WHY DONT THEY MAKE MORE DAYS, I HAVE TO WORK , GET MY HAIR DID ETC ETC "
well simply put, there's too big of a mess and responsibility for the city to manage when they don't make much revenue off it?

I mean are the workers on strike going to clean things up?

Anyway, I watched from the far end of English Bay (across from Vanier Park, near the bridge) tonight, and it was wayyy nicer than watching from near the bathhouse. The crowd was quieter and less drunk and annoying... but the fireworks were a bit farther than from where I usually watch.

Did anyone go to burnaby mountain to watch the fireworks? There were a lott of people there and it kinda sucks because I had to leave before the fireworks even started. To make things worse, I could here them from SFU where I live...perfect day for em
