FAO: Girls....re: hair
Ok hi, i need some help.
I have longish hair (about midway down my back) and i use a hair straightener on it pretty much everyday (cuz its naturally curly and i hate curly hair).
Here's my problem: my hair has HORRIBLE split ends and it seems to be breaking on me in some places (at the ends....im guessing cuz of the split ends).
Is there any way to make it stronger at all? Like, obviously i know i have to cut the split ends to get rid of them, but is there anything i can use or take to make my hair stronger so that it:
a) won't get split ends
b) won't break
Im wondering mostly about shampoos, conditioners, herbs that i can take, etc.
If anyone knows, any advice would be appreciated.
Oh, and yes, im aware that if i stopped using the straightener, my hair prolly wouldnt be damaged, but i dont think i'll be stopping that any time soon, lol. So im looking for other ways. :)

isn't that what the directions say on the back of the bottle? and ever since i started using conditioner about a month ago, it definitely makes a difference in how soft your hair is haha. i hope you have enjoyed "a glimpse of the illicit's feminine corner, tune in next time "
My hair seems to always be like this year-round tho for the past year and a half. I did cut it in that time of course, but the split ends are all over the place!
illicit: I do shampoo and then leave the conditioner in and all that jazz as i always have done. Ive always used conditioner.
siuying: what kind of products protect your hair from the heat of the straightener? Do you know any specific brands that work??
Kevin: I dont shampoo my hair everyday anyway....a few times a week is what i do usually.
Its just so gross! I hate it! My bf says he cant even notice it and that he thinks my hair beautiful but i think hes lying cuz it seems very noticeable to me. I dont want to have to pull a britney and shave my head to get rid of the split ends :( Ugh, i cant even imagine that anyway!
remember demi moore did it, and I know you love Demi :P
!
No, not gonna shave my hair. I will have to cut quite a bit off of it tho i think....that wont be too bad tho.
i've used a variety of hair products just to try them out.. when i had straight hair i use tresemme's heat tamer spray every time i need to blow dry or straighten my hair.. it protects your hair from the heat.. john frieda's frizz ease also has a straightener spray and you can try their daily nourishment spray if your hair is on the dry side.. i highly recommend their secret weapon flawless finishing creme, that's what i put on the ends of my hair to keep it from splitting.. right now i'm using marc anthony's products.. i haven't tried his simply straight line but i'm having a blast using his strictly curls product line..
but remember to trim your split ends first before trying all that..=)
There's this really cool Japanese hair straightening solution that salon's use. Basically, it's perming your hair, but perming it straight instead of curly.
From all my friends who have done it, it doesn't damage your hair, and save a load of time in the morning!!
I don't really have a problem with split ends because I don't straighten my hair =) Because my hair is spaghetti straight already! Haha... Although I'm looking into digitally perming my hair (another ingenious Japanese invention: The Digital Perm) so it's wavy...
Always wanting what we don't have... HAHA:
Your hair is curly but you want it straight
My hair is striaght but I want it wavy
Interesting =D
for the record - curly hair is HOTTT!!! i'm not lucky enough to have curly hair, so if you have it, beee HAPPY :)
I'm gonna try that conditioner. Yah, I have dark brown hair with slight reddish tinges throughout it that show up nicely in the sunlight....I absolutely love my hair color (my hair dresser says she'd never be able to replicate the color, but i think shes lying, lol) so i dont really want to dye it another color....but thats true that it does switch it up a little bit. I think im gonna have to cut the split ends off.
I'm gonna try that tresemme thing too....might as well give it a try, what do i have to lose?
And ugh, i hate my curly hair! But im guessing you have naturally straight hair and want curly hair....i have naturally curly hair and love straight hair. Grass is always greener on the other side i guess, lol.
Is your straightener ionic with ceramic plates?
YESI II
Ceramic Straight Iron
Automatic Sense Control System
Goes up to 210 degrees (oops, i thought it was 280 which i put in an earlier post)
Its a good straightener. I bought it from my hairdresser about two years (or was it three....) ago and it cost a lot, althought i cant remember the exact price. Its not one of those crappy little things that you buy at the drugstore.
Yah, that person you described above is me....i NEED to straighten my hair or else i just dont feel right. I just really wish it wouldnt damage my hair :( Maybe i need a newer model....but this one still works really great.
edit: I dont know if you never used heat protect spray previously every time...but the girl Im talking about she didnt and I think thats why her hair always singed off, everyones told me to use heat spray everytime when your hair is damp, then blowdry, then straighten, then finish cream, and weekly conditioning treatments like those hot oil ones
According to a website i went to, it says its ionic, or that it has a "negative ion that gives a shinier, silkier look".... It doesnt take long to straighten at all, and my hair is pretty curly....i can get it done pretty fast actually. Its a good straigtener....
....but its destroying my hair! This protective spray that you are talking about, where can you biy it from?
I obviously need to cut the ends off, but the damage is all over the freaking place....people tell me they cant see it when i ask but i think that they're lying!! lol. I just want to know how to protect it after i cut it. The ends look just awful right now imo.
I feel dumb now =(
and 400 is 400 degrees some of these straighteners are serious business, and my sedu heats up in like 10 secs
I think illicit feels threatened by this girly thread. Awww.
anyways..
BOO!
and this hairstyle as well
