Parking @ Burnaby
Can anyone provide some insight on parking spaces at Burnaby? I poked around the website and can only find information about the B-lot (which uses a lottery system), but what about the C-lot and whatever else?
I also checked with the registrar and they told me to check the website (as always for everything else, argh).

My friend's car was towed years back...I guess they're not as strict on the parking regulations anymore?
Besides, I only get ticketed maybe once out of every four or five times I park there.

About 5 minutes later, campus security will show up.
Ironically, somebody passed out in my calculus class and it took them a full 10-20 minutes to get some security to bring first aid.. but when one of their parking meters is screaming, they're on it within 5 minutes.

Parking at SFU's Burnaby campus has been undergoing a number of changes.
With the ongoing development of the campus and adjacent community, parking
will face a number of future challenges. Over the past few years, Parking
Services has enlisted the services of a consultant for the development of
strategic planning and development studies. These studies underwent
continuous evolution as the timelines and scope of campus and community
development have become known, especially in regard to the known impact on
parking inventories in response to this development. As these documents
have been developed, particularly the Parking Management Plan (PMP), we have
elicited input from the community through committees, surveys, and
presentations. In June 2007 the PMP was completed and the principles
approved by the Board of Governors (The Board). As a result of this plan, a
Differential Pricing Study (DPS) was completed and this document along with
a proposed pricing plan was submitted to The Board in September for approval.
These studies had three major goals in relation to the pricing of parking at
SFU's Burnaby campus: create revenues sufficient to maintain and support
parking inventories for University users, adjust the pricing of the various
lots to more accurately reflect the desirability of each lot and
differentiate the prices between the lots to both reflect the desirability
and create a broader range of price points.

Members of the parking community will find that some prices will remain the
same, some will increase slightly and some will increase more significantly.
The concepts used to determine the lot pricing differentiation were:
1) Fairness: lots with similar desirability should be similarly priced.
2) Balance Utilization: pricing should be set such that all lots are
utilized to an equal degree.
3) Increase Flexibility: create more choice and a broader range of parking
fees at SFU.
4) Achieve Market Rates: determine what the market rates at SFU should be
and price accordingly.
5) Influence Parking Management: provide information to assist with parking
planning and implementation
In consultation with senior administration it has been determined that it
would be better to move towards the new pricing strategy in stages rather
than in one step. For this reason, we are moving towards pricing
differentiation on January 1, 2008 instead of the January 1, 2009 full
implementation date proposed in the DPS. The Board approved the changes for
2008, but has directed that Parking Services engage the community in a
consultation and awareness process before any further changes are approved
for 2009 and beyond.
I would welcome you to review the full reports and documents at the links
provided, however some highlights of the changes include:
1) Differentiating between B-Lot West and B-lot East (some long time
community members may remember this as G-lot) with B-lot East having a lower
price point.
2) Increasing the prices for lots determined to have a higher desirability -
generally these are the lots closest to campus buildings.
3) In the short to medium term, maintaining the price levels for the
Convocation Mall and West Mall reserved areas.
4) In the medium to long term, subject to Board approval, continuing to
adjust prices until the differential levels are met and then slowly
adjusting until market rates are met.
With the upcoming parking renewal period, existing permit holders will have
the option to renew for their existing lots or, subject to availability,
transfer to a different lot. Students who are entering the parking lottery
for the current B-lot will, if successful in the lottery and subject to
availability, have the option of purchasing either a B-lot East or B-lot
West pass.
As mandated in the studies, Parking Services will continue to exercise due
diligence and monitor the parking situation on campus. We will be
undertaking surveys, reviewing internal and external data, and adjusting lot
characteristics/restrictions to ensure that the concepts listed above
regarding pricing differentiation continue to be met.
Over the coming year, the community can expect further communication as well
as formal opportunities (similar to the committees, surveys, and studies of
the past) to provide input regarding parking at the Burnaby campus. In the
meantime please review the documents on the website, especially the FAQ, for
the answers to any questions you may have. If you find that your question or
concern is not addressed, please feel free to email me directly.

it's abrupt and sudden right when you turn left to go into the campus parking lots, and it'll be your first right after the slight s curve.
i got to school at like 5.30 today. and instead of trying wasting time and gas trying to find that damn lot i thought i'ld just ask security. So i went in there. and i asked the lady where this lot was and she said that it didn't exist. she said all the parking is on a pay per hr basis. SOOOOOOOO i wasted ANOTHER 9.00 in parking, and therefore no lunch or breakfast for me :(

I pay $0.00 per day and only got caught once this term.
Apparently sfu security/parking don't know where it is either.

Another friend said that he used to park there all the time and he would get warnings (or tickets, i cant remember which), and then one day he arrived at his truck and it had a boot on it!
I'd like to pay $0.00 for all day parking too, lol. But i dont want to have a boot put on my car.
Seriously though, don't risk getting a ticket anywhere at SFU. Even that 10 dollars is gonna seem like nothing if you get a boot and/or get towed. and it DOES happen, it's just a matter of chance if you get caught or not
well if you're going to school 5 days a week, there's a way you can pay less than $2.25 a day, in fact, about $1.80 a day for parking and you don't have to walk from the far corner of the parking lot area towards the school itself.
a one time fee of 160$ for a parking pass / (22 days a month of school*4months=88 days)
160/88= $1.8181818
G lot is 144/88=$1.63 and it still saves you walking distance
Other options are to park at the bottom of the hill and then bus it up, which isn't bad because the bus takes you right into the middle of the school.
It was like a one minute walk to the side door right infront of the Renaissance Coffee beside ASSC in the AQ.
And, from what I remember, it was cheap.
Well, i gave that spot up when i started having courses at the Harbour Centre campus. There just was no point in having it if i was only at Burnaby for one or two days.
Next semester, im only at Burnaby for two days, but i have two classes on one of those days and they are separated by 5 hours....so im not just gonna kick it at SFU during those 5 hours, im prolly gonna drive home and then come back for my later class, which means paying twice in one day. Sucky but oh well. And the other class i have is only for two hours on another day, but still, $2.25 all day parking would be nice. I get ripped off on parking so much, especially downtown.
