Well someone has to see your tattoo... you can't cover your arms all of the time lol. In the summer it will probably be on display. If you get inked, don't you want to show it off or what's the point of getting it?

I guess I did make a generalization about guys getting inked to look tougher but that's the vibe I have gotten from every guy that I have talked to that mentions his tattoo or clearly displays it.
I can see ur point, and although I’m not a fan of tattoos myself, I’ll have to disagree with you

Some people get tattoos to represent something that’s meaningful to them in their life, it has nothing to do with other people

for example people who wear crosses on their necklace, are they "showing off" their religion? Not really. they do it for themselves cuz its meaningful to them, and I bet they could care less what other people think of their cross
same way as some people get tattoos that are meaningful, for example for a lost relative that they loved and want to have a constant reminder of them or how important they were in their life

not everyone is a gangster wannab, though yes some are, but it’s unfair to generalize everyone into that category

When people get tat's to represent something meaningful in their life, by displaying it as ink on their skin they are displaying it to the world. If you don't want anyone to see the tat, then what's the point? By displaying it to the world, you are showing it off. It's a fact.

I respect those who get tattoos to honour a dead person's memory. Maybe they got the tattoo because of a promise to that person or an inside joke with that person. I understand how it could be said that if something significant about that person that passed on is on your skin that you will never forget about them. But at the same time, do you really need ink to remember him/her? If they were that important to you, his/her memory will live on in your heart. That should be enough of a constant reminder.

And about people who wear crosses... to me that signifies how they want to proudly display their religion. When someone wears a necklace , people are going to see it and they know that. They know that their beliefs are on display.

Seriously though, I have no tat's nor piercings. I think I must be one of the only girls over the age of 5 who doesn't have her ears pierced lol.

not really... what’s wrong with getting something for urself rather then everyone else? i can think of a ton of analogies, where you do things for urself and not anyone esle
and tattoos can be done for oneself

moreover personally wear my necklaces under my shirt so I’m not a walking billboard for anyone nor do i want to be
ill give u a specific example
i wear a cross on my necklace not cuz im Christian or anything else
but its a cross my great grandfather earned in ww2
the story goes that intel found out the front line would be overrun by the Russians during the night so a retreat was ordered, the people on the front were not notified and thus they were a expendable to the army, my great grandfather on the other hand didn’t agree with this crap and returned to the front to be amongst his friends and comrades, that to me is honour, defending your country and ur fellow men instead of running like the rest of the army so I wear this cross to remind me of that
by no means would anyone know any of this, and thus I’m not advertising anything by wearing it

and a tattoo can work in the exact same way

If some1 got something meaningful tattooed on themselves, its not necessarily there to show it off.. some ppl do it to mourn a loved one or to give a physical sense to what they feel inside.

I never said anything is wrong by doing something strictly for yourself. You may get a tattoo just for yourself. If it's easily visible to others, then no matter how much you say you are doing it for "purely just" yourself, you're showing it off. Everyone has an inner attention whore regardless of what they claim. ;)

Necklaces are different because they are easily removable. Your religious beliefs do not compel you to wear the necklace, but to an outsider who doesn't know your back story, it appears that you are displaying your religion if you wear the necklace on top of your shirt.

^ doesn’t that make u self centered though? so if anyone does something u can see their doing it for u? seems like from what ur saying ur the attention whore here thinking the world revolves around u
    :P
I’m just saying though some people do things and could care less what the world around them thinks.
Hypothetical situation, if someone was the last person on earth would they not get a tattoo since they had no1 to show off to?

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but if any of you have tattoos, where did you get it done?

I'm looking at Sacred Heart, but it looks like they specialize in pretty large/drastic ink. I'm just looking for a tattoo that's about 1.5 inches, and just near my hip (so it won't be seen in a bathing suit or anything).
